Back when I was growing up in NYC, I remember going roller-skating in Central Park during the summer. I'm not talking about Rollerblading—there was an actual rink with roller skates to rent, not just the enthusiastic Dance Skaters. In fact, there were indoor and outdoor rinks scattered throughout the five boroughs. It was the '80s after all. However, over the past few years, New York City has been seriously roller-skate challenged with only two rinks—one at Riverbank State Park, the other indoors at Staten Island's RollerJam USA—in all five boroughs. But that's about to change.
